The Icon of St. Michael the Archangel is a unique collaboration between ArtAID, Sacred Icons, and the World Trade Center Families in memory of all who perished on September 11, 2001. The icon was created for the first anniversary of the attack at the request of the victims' families. It was inspired by Governor Pataki's words that the WTC footprints are sacred ground and that St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church would be rebuilt. ArtAID approached Sacred Icons (www.sacredicons.com), which created this magnificent work of art. It also honors St. Nicholas Church, destroyed when the Twin Towers collapsed, and all those who perished on September 11. The words on St. Michael's scroll were contributed by Thomas Meehan, father of Colleen Meehan Barkow.
