Tribute for Detroit Police Officers Matthew Bowens and Jennifer Fettig

CLICK TO ACCESS PRINT RESOLUTION FILE!
Angels have long been believed to possess the power to protect, console and heal, especially during difficult times. This particular image, based on the Guardian Angel Saint Michael was chosen for its inspiring beauty, strength and courage, qualities that characterize the men and women of the Detroit Police Department who risk their lives every day to help others in their times of need.
Blessed are the peace makers: for they shall be called children of God....Mat 5:9

ArtAID provided LODD banners and remembrance cards for the Memorial Services for the Detroit Police Officers murdered in the line of duty. Pictured right are partners of Jennifer Fettig and Matthew Bowens standing beneath the ArtAID banner hanging proudly in their Headquarters at the 4th Precinct in Detroit.

Detroit Police Officers Jennifer Fettig (above) and Matthew Bowens were killed in the line of duty on February 16, 2004.
After making a routine stop, police said Bowens and Fettig returned to their cruiser with the suspect’s license. The gunman got out of a pickup truck, approached the officers’ car and shot Fettig twice, at least once in the head, police said.
The gunman ran away while Bowens got out of the cruiser and radioed for backup. The gunman returned and shot Bowens before taking the officer’s weapon and driving away; police said neither officer was able to return fire.
Eric Marshall, who police say fatally shot Fettig and Bowens, was charged with two counts of first-degree murder, two counts of felony murder and one count of felony firearm in the killings. An innocent plea was entered on his behalf.
The 23-year-old from Detroit faces a mandatory penalty of life in prison without parole if convicted.
