1st Annual Blue Mass
NEW YORK, --OCTOBER 9, 2004. Firefighters of the FDNY and police officers of the NYPD gathered together to celebrate the 1st Annual Blue Mass at St. Peter's Church, not far from Ground Zero.
Sponsored by the FDNY Family Transport, this holy event is the very first in what will be celebrated annually in recognition of the mutual appreciation of the members of service in both the New York Police Department and Fire Department of New York. The bonds of our friendship created in the aftermath of September 11th run deep and will never be broken.

The Blue Mass "Angel Rising" was created just for this event, depicting an angel rising from the darkness with arms reaching toward the light.
